Dome Valley Dawn Ceremony

Dawn ceremony, showing how Maori and other environmental activists placed a Rahui (taboo) over the planned waste landfill area at the edge of the Dome Valley.
Quite a number of our village members support the citizen initiative “Fight the Tip, save the Dome” and the local Maori tribes, who aim to protect the Hoteo River from leachate
that will inevitably come from the planned massive landfill. It is highly likely that toxic substances will discharge into the Hoteo River and then the Kaipara Harbour, threatening and destroying fish breeding grounds and already compromised eco systems.
